President Trump appoints Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that attorney Katie Zacharia will serve as the White House press secretary starting Columbus Day.

The selection marks a notable shift in the administration’s communications lineup, bringing a legal professional who has lived and worked in China and who is a mother of four into a high‑profile role.

Trump posted the news on his Truth Social account, noting that Zacharia will begin her term on Columbus Day and will hold an introductory news conference on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the White House press briefing room. He added, "Katie has been with me, in spirit, from the very beginning, and will do a fantastic job!"

Zacharia responded on the same platform, describing the appointment as "the honor of a lifetime" and pledging to deliver strong results for the country while keeping the American people informed about the administration’s major wins.

Before joining the White House, Zacharia served as a senior communications adviser at Truth Social and Trump Media & Technology Group. She is also an attorney and has spent time working on matters related to China, adding international experience to her portfolio.

Her personal story has resonated with pro‑life advocates. According to multiple statements, Zacharia was nearly aborted at 30 minutes before a scheduled procedure, when a Christian counselor intervened and her biological mother chose adoption instead. She has since become an outspoken pro‑life figure, which aligns with the administration’s stance against abortion.

The appointment replaces former press secretary Karoline Leavitt, whose tenure concluded as Trump reorganized his communication team.

Zacharia’s first briefing on Tuesday is expected to outline the administration’s communication priorities and present her vision for engaging the press corps moving forward.
