Otis Wilson subdued by security after altercation at Soldier Field on Oct. 5

Former Chicago Bears linebacker Otis Wilson was subdued by stadium security after a physical confrontation at Soldier Field during the Bears’ 23‑12 win over the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2026.

The incident began when Wilson, 69, was told he could not use the elevator reserved for media personnel to access the locker‑room and press‑conference areas after the game. Despite the restriction, witnesses said he entered the elevator and was quickly intercepted by several security staff members.

Multiple officers escorted Wilson off the elevator, and he was later restrained by a group of both male and female security workers. According to the Chicago Sun‑Times, he was found on all fours, bent at the waist and appearing fatigued. A photograph published with the report showed a softball‑sized hole in a wall near the elevator, described as a result of the scuffle.

After the altercation, Wilson was placed onto a wheelchair‑type elevator and taken downstairs. He remained conscious, alert and sustained no visible injuries, according to the same source. The Chicago Police Department has not filed any charges and said it received no service calls or finalized case reports three hours after the game ended.

The Bears organization has not responded to requests for comment, and the female security officer involved was not identified. The episode adds to ongoing discussions about access protocols, aging former athletes, and the handling of disputes in high‑traffic venues.

Police continue to review statements from witnesses and the security team as the league and stadium operators consider whether additional training or policy changes are needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
